Front Page News.

The day we moved onto the boat, we were all hanging around the parking lot waiting for the movers to unload our stuff into the storage unit and a reporter from the Whidbey News Times pulled up out of her car and started snapping pictures of Mark as he was taking the baby seat off the back of his bike. They got to talking and next thing we knew she was down on the boat and interviewing us for an article. That was fun and completely unexpected, out of the blue. We figured we would be in the middle or the back of the paper somewhere but Wednesday came and the paper came out, I walked past the newspaper stands up at the marina office and see us, smack dab on the front page.
At home on the harbor.
Aislinn was so thrilled to have her picture in the paper.
A copy of the article can be found here.

That day turned out to be a red letter day for us, being the Fourth of July weekend the yacht club put on their annual Kids Fishing Derby down at the marina. We registered the kiddos and trucked on down to F dock with about 100 other kids and their families and took the kids fishing for the first time. It might as well have been our first time too, neither Mark nor I have been fishing since we were the kids age so we had to solicit some help from one of the seasoned fishers running the show to help us string the kids brand new rods and show us how to attach a hook and sinker and bate it.

Mac started off the derby with the very first catch and proceeded to catch 12 more in the 2 hour allotted time.

Aislinn caught the next one for us and it weighed in at 38 grams. She caught one more for the day.

They had so much fun, it was great that the yacht club put this on all for free, the community had a great turn out.

Finny caught five fish.

After the derby we all went up to the club for a free BBQ and prizes.

For our first time fishing and in a competition we made off like pirates. Aislinn won first prize for biggest fish in the girl category and second biggest over all. Hard to believe with a 38 gram fish, but she did it, won a new scooter, a 3D dragon kite and gift certificates to DQ.

The boys large volume of fish had our family coming in first for most fish caught by a family.
Not too shabby.
